Lagoon with an inflow pipe and rock-lined bank

Lagoons & Sludge.

Biological treatment for wastewater lagoons

Over time, lagoons fill with sludge and grease. That shortens treatment time, causes odors and leads toward costly dredging. Biological treatment helps digest the organic material that settles to the bottom.

Common problems

  • Sludge buildup that reduces lagoon capacity and treatment time
  • Expensive dredging and sludge hauling
  • Odors, floating grease and poor water quality

How we help

  • Beneficial bacteria digest organic waste where it collects, instead of masking it with chemicals or fragrance.
  • We recommend a product and dosing schedule based on your system and goals.
  • Natural and biodegradable, with follow-up support from our team.

Where it is used

  • Municipal lagoons
  • Industrial ponds
  • Sludge storage ponds
  • Sludge tanks

Frequently asked questions

Can biological treatment reduce lagoon sludge?

Selected beneficial bacteria help digest the organic portion of the sludge that settles on the lagoon bottom. Results depend on the lagoon, temperature and loading, which is why we start with an assessment.

How is a lagoon treated?

Product is applied at points around the lagoon or near the inlet on a regular schedule. Larger lagoons may get a higher starting dose followed by maintenance doses.

Do we need to drain or stop the lagoon?

No. Treatment is done while the lagoon keeps operating, without draining or shutting it down.
